Seventeen-year-old Contreras convinces the referee to double-cross him in his WBC debut
Joseph Contreras was born in 2008, is still finishing high school, and on Friday night he got Aaron Judge to hit a double play with the bases loaded in front of more than 30,000 fans.
The youngest player in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the 17-year-old Brazilian pitcher entered the second inning of his country’s 15-5 loss to Team USA at Daikin Park with one out and the bases loaded. He threw a 94.4 mph fastball and Judge rolled it into a 5-4-3 double play. Inning over.
“Impressive,” Judge said after the match. “I know I didn’t do it at that age. He had some composure on the mound, throwing up to 100 miles an hour, facing guys he’d seen on TV. It was just impressive to see him control himself and get out of a big jam.”
Contreras, son of former major league pitcher Jose Contreras, admitted that the moment seemed bigger in retrospect than it did while it was happening.
“The moment I was right, I have to execute my proposals and get it out somehow,” he said. “Now that I look back I can see the greatness of it.”
Team USA manager Mark DeRosa praised Contreras during the game, noting that he inherited his father’s split-finger fastball and calling it a remarkable place to put a teenager.
Contreras is committed to Vanderbilt University and is ranked No. 47 on the 2026 draft list. He finished with 1.1 innings pitched, two hits, one run and three walks, along with a truly memorable strikeout of the night’s biggest moment.

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
